This is my first post – my debut in blogging cyberspace. In light of this momentous occasion, I thought it might be best to start at the beginning. That way, I might impress you with my logic and clarity of thought. And, well, maybe not. In any event, here is what this blog is all about.
The Opening Statement will be fluid, and will evolve over time. It is a legal blog without clearly defined limits. Despite what many blogging pundits demand, the lack of definition is intentional. I want to communicate ideas to people. Whether the topic is “legal” in the strictest sense, or provides political or social commentary, or is simply a random thought that I believe to be worth sharing, I hope to gain your attention for a few moments and have you walk away believing that you gained something valuable from my efforts – however you define it.
I’m neither perfect, nor particularly brilliant, successful, or rich. I don’t have all the answers. I’m not trying to impart the wisdom of King Solomon upon you, and couldn’t even if I wanted to do so. I’m human, and imperfectly perfect – just like you. I’m sure I’ll make mistakes. You won’t always agree with me. I might even write something so stupid or inane that you laugh. Even worse, I may read it later and have no choice but to laugh at myself for being such an inadvertent buffoon. At least I will then be laughing with you, and we can all smile amid our daily chaos for a few moments.
But I can promise you that what I write will be genuine, and that when I click the publish button to send my message to the world – to you – it will be the best message I’ve got at that time. It will be my best effort. And after all, isn’t that what this thing we call the “human experience” is all about?
I’m Dave Doto, and this is my Opening Statement. -July 13, 2010.
